I had to be very patient with this Tree Swallow. He was in a nesting box about eye-level at the edge of a wildflower field. On my first attempt I walked toward the box too quickly and he was gone before I could get a shot. I waited and came back a little while later. I was glad to see he was perched in the hole when I came back. I got the equipment ready and took one step at a time toward the box. I took gentle steps w/o any sudden movements, waiting about 10-15 seconds between steps. Each time took a step, I took a shot not knowing if it would be the closest I'd get. I spent a while inching forward until I got about 15 feet from the box. That's when he decided he's had enough and took off.
